Broken Finger

Ouch. No more indoor soccer goal-keeping for me. After 2 doctor's appointments and an x-ray, I found out this afternoon that I have a fractured finger. It is fractured in the joint space on my second knuckle, and the fragment is rotated. That makes a bit of sense to me, but it's all doctor talk and that's about all I understood. Apart from the fact that I've also been referred to a hand specialist plastic surgeon. The doctor was very aware of the fact that I play piano and guitar, so she's also ensuring that I get full movement back in my joints so that hopefully it heals properly and I can play again. Now to see what the specialist says...

This photo was taken (shocking webcam photo, sorry) on Wednesday evening...

How it happened... I was playing indoor soccer on Monday night (as per usual) in my usual position as goalie, I stopped a goal and realised that my finger hurt quite a bit. I dismissed it a bit, because it's pretty easy in indoor soccer to get sore, and then continued to play the rest of the game. When I got home I put some ice on it for half an hour, went to a Tupperware party, and then put it on ice as I went to bed. The next morning it was quite bruised and swollen, and some staff members at school convinced me to go to the doctor. So I made an appt for that afternoon (Tuesday). The doctor pretty much straight away sent me for x-rays, and I just got in. Then late on Wednesday afternoon I was asked to make an appointment to discuss the x-ray. Straight away I started worrying a bit because that most likely meant it wasn't just sprained. Then today I left school a little bit early to see the doctor again. She told me the above news.
I'm just getting over it, but thanks Chantelle for letting me debrief on you!! xx

Graduated!!

Last Saturday night was my university graduation. These are some quick snaps Arlene took at home before I left for the ceremony.

We were a bit rushed because I had forgotten about ironing my gown, and so it was a bit of a dash to iron it, take some quick pics, and drive to uni so we weren't late. We were well on time in the end, but that gave time to get some professional photos done. Hopefully I'll be able to put some of those photos up on here soon too.

It was a very long ceremony, and I had to sit very patiently waiting for my three seconds of fame. But it was worth it. My favourite part was the finale, where uni put on a five minute fireworks show... Just standing proudly (in a good way) in the middle of a huge crowd of graduates, with our cool hats and gowns, looking up at the sky in celebration, excitement, relief, joy, and pride in our accomplishments... It's a moment I hope I never forget.

To officially receive a certificate of recognition- yep, I'm properly qualified to be doing what I love most- It's a wonderful moment. I'm glad Mum convinced me to go (shh don't tell her that!)...

Come Monday Morning...

Not really. It's just another joke.
But I thought it was much too funny.
So please don't rush to phone up my boss
Cause then I'll be outta money.

Mary and the Lamb

Mary had a little lamb,
His fleece was white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went,
The Lamb was sure to go.
He followed her to school each day,
Twasn’t even in the rule.
He made the children laugh and play,
To have a Lamb at school.

And then the rules all changed one day,
Illegal it became.
To bring the Lamb of God to school,
Or even speak His Name.
Everyday got worse and worse,
And days turned in to years.
Instead of hearing children laugh,
We heard gun shots and tears.
What must we do to stop the crime,
That’s in our schools today?
Let’s let the Lamb come back to school,
And teach our kids to pray.
